Solo Batik Carnival X [Part 2]: Astamurti Kawijayan (The Glory of Javanese Culture)

In the first decade, Solo Batik Carnival (SBC) brought a theme Astamurti Kawijayan (The glory of Javanese Culture) and it’s consisted of 6 themes. The 6 themes are Sekar Jagad (Flowers), Wayang (puppets), Topeng Panji (Panji masks), Defile (The Queen of South Beach Legend), Mustika Jawa Dwipa (Jewelry) dan Jatayu (an eagle from Ramayana story). All of the themes are the symbol of the glory in Java Island.

After 10 years presenting magnificent costumes with Batik as the main material. This time Solo Batik Carnival has invited Jember Fashion Carnival and Cirebon Caruban Festival to join and celebrate the first decade.

The themes are truly wonderful which makes me want to capture them all the times. All the models have to walk about 2 km by wearing the costumes. Some of them also wearing high shoes.

I was really enjoying the carnival and I have some favorite costumes that I want to share to you in this Solo Batik Carnival X [part 2]. I have explained you a little bit on my previous post Solo Batik Carnival X [part 1].

The event is annually held. It is held in 3 days from July 13-14 2017 for the exhibition and July 15 2017 for the grand carnival. To join in the festival, the participants have to join the workshop first for about 3 months before the carnival held. We really need to appreciate this event. If you want to visit the event, that would be worth it for you as you will not only enjoy the carnival but also you can enjoy sightseeing around the spirit of Java, Solo city.

Kalau pas malam hari nanti pesona keindahan kostumnya gak kelihatan. Makanya, sore hari lebih banyak diambil buat ngadain karnival gitu mas Budi Santoso… Iya senang mendengarnya kalau dirimu juga ikut mendukung. 🙂

  4. Oh my goodness! This carnival is so beautifully breath-taking! I have questions though: is there music as they walk? Do they make their own costumes? Are the costumes very heavy?
    Thanks Safira!

  5. i do admire your photography, and thank you for the obvious care you have taken in putting this post together – but I have to admit upon seeing these costumes the only sentiment which occurs to me is ‘Sometimes less is more’?
