Celebrating Ramadhan and Hari Raya Lebaran in Cocos Keeling Island

Last year, I celebrated Ramadhan and Hari Raya Lebaran in Cocos Keeling Island, Western Australia because @dokterjalanjalan was working there and he took me. I’m very lucky to live on the island although it’s only 6 weeks but I’m very happy to have wonderful experience, new friends and new family. It’s very big day for celebrating Hari Raya and Cocos People are very enthusiastic with it. They’re celebrating the day with long events as it was also in school holiday.

In the Hari Raya night, I tried to participate in the event as I really want to be part of them. So, I did dancing performance and I did preparation by myself. I was so happy because the people give me chance to entertain them.

It was big day and almost party every night on the island. People will be gathering and then eating together while enjoying the performances. There were different performance each day which is interesting to see. Sometimes we couldn’t go because @dokterjalanjalan was on call.

People in Cocos are very kind. They don’t see who are you and they will help you. Even I got new traditional dress for Lebaran from a nice kakak (sister). I’m happy as I actually did that when I’m in Indonesia. Buying new clothes is s tradition.

For preparing my performance, I did rehearsal by myself and with kids because I had two performance with the Cocos kids and solo performance. So, I did rehearsal every day at home and at the place where the kids and me used to do rehearsal together. There was two kakak who are very nice to help me teaching the kids.

We got many invitation from the local people to join their party. I will always remember the experience celebrating ramadhan and Hari Raya Lebaran in Cocos (K) Island. Thank you very much @dokterjalanjalan for taking me at the great moment and Thank you my family and friends in Cocos… You’re very kind and I’m missing you all right now.
